His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), delivered a speech at the 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions, held at the organization's headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 4 and 5, 2024.
During the meeting, His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha highlighted the critical context of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in the deaths of over 44,000 people, most of whom were children and women, and the destruction of infrastructure. He also pointed to the worsening humanitarian crises in Lebanon.
Additionally, His Excellency urged OIC institutions to intensify their efforts to support the Palestinian people and alleviate the humanitarian crisis by transforming solidarity into concrete action. He emphasized the importance of better coordination among OIC institutions to avoid duplication of resources and to build on the positive outcomes of Islamic Summits and sessions of the Council of Foreign Ministers. He also highlighted the necessity of preparing a final report and an implementation plan for the upcoming Ten-Year Programme of Action (2026-2035).
Moreover, the Secretary-General held a productive meeting with the heads of delegations of OIC institutions. The meeting concluded with the signing of several memorandums of understanding between the OIC General Secretariat and various OIC institutions. These included agreements between the OIC General Secretariat and the Union of OIC News Agencies; between SESRIC (Ankara Center) and the Union of OIC News Agencies; between SESRIC and the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission; and between SESRIC and the Women Development Organization.
