Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology, Ambassador Aftab Ahmed Khokher, while representing H.E. the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku, emphasized that religious leaders can and should play a catalytic role in raising awareness and fostering a better understanding of the global climate change challenge. The summit is being held as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 5 to 7, 2024.
Ambassador Aftab emphasized that the summit provided a unique opportunity for a profound alignment between scientific perspectives and spiritual wisdom. He added that all religions are tied to common moral principles of respecting nature, noting that religions and their leaders have always urged humanity to live in harmony with nature and to mobilize ethical actions to protect our planet and environment.
